Mountain Writers Center, the permanent facility of Mountain Writers Series, is located in Southeast Portland just five blocks south of Powell Boulevard and the Ross Island Bridge. The Center enables Mountain Writers Series to provide a number of services to the community.

The Center often serves as a site for readings, lectures, classes, and workshops by participating artists that are easily accessible to the Portland metropolitan area. Community receptions and gatherings feature performances by world-class musicians, sometimes in collaborative events with guest authors.

Our Resource Center off the kitchen is a clearing house for information about regional and national literary activities, including guidelines and applications for manuscripts, journals, writers conferences, and awards and fellowships.

Our Library upstairs is filled with contemporary literary publications, including journals and books that have been donated to the Center. In addition, the library holds a complete collection of Lannan Literary Videos which can be viewed on-site or checked out by Series Members.

As a part of some Northwest Regional Residencies, Mountain Writers Center provides an artist's room for lodging for visiting and touring writers.

The main area downstairs doubles as gallery space for local visual artists. Artists interested in showing work in the main room of the Center should submit a letter with samples to present to the MWS Board.

Mountain Writers Center serves as a meeting space for writers and literary groups. Rental fees are one way Mountain Writers Series generates earned income, and fees are negotiable depending on time and duration of rental. Contact an MWS staff member for more information.
